This year, I developed a new love for greenhouses. Now that we have outdoor space to create our own little oasis, I have enjoyed many visits to several local greenhouses to fill our patio with ivy, succulents, herbs & spices and several other pretty flowers. Now that Fall is quickly arriving, I am already missing my frequent greenhouse visits, planting, watering and even the weeding.
Today, I want to do a little Flashback Friday to when Danielle & Jake invited us to their family greenhouse to do their engagement session. We have been so lucky in the past to have spent time with our Swatch Couples at gorgeous parks in the area, but the idea of shooting in a greenhouse was a completely different and awesome way to shoot with natural elements. We were so excited. This was a first for us and we knew it would make for a beautiful setting. Not to mention, we always love spending time with our couples before the stress of the big day really starts to set in. Danielle & Jake are so easygoing; we were laughing all afternoon! They taught is a few things about the flowers and we found out Jake is a natural at putting together floral arrangements! We even got to meet their adorable pup, Peat!
Whiteford Greenhouse was everything we could have expected! We loved the bright, colorful rows of flowers from floor to ceiling, and the way the sun came in through the huge windows that afternoon. Going to a greenhouse for a photo session is completely different than shopping for your garden at one. You’re not just seeking out the perfect perennial for your garden or the right compliment of greenery for your flower pot, you are looking at the big picture. You’re stepping back and noticing every blend of color and every size of bloom. It’s a whole new perspective!
Needless to say, we had a great time walking around inside the greenhouse. Danielle & Jake were naturals and we loved photographing them in a setting so familiar to them. After a while, we decided to head down the road to the family garden. A slightly different setting with glorious light as the sun went down made for even more awesome photos.
To top the afternoon off, Jake put together a gorgeous bouquet of flowers for one last picture. To our surprise, we got to take it home and put it in a vase in our living room! This is just a taste of what their wedding day will look like as Jake and his family will be putting together the floral arrangements.
While we’re excited for football, Pumpkin Spice Latte’s, and of course Fall weddings; we can’t help but look through these photos and remember the warmth of the greenhouse and long for summer again. Thanks again to Jake & Danielle and to Whiteford Greenhouse for letting us photograph such perfect subjects in this gorgeous setting. We can’t wait for your big day!
