Last October, I was supposed to go with my friend Kallie to make fairy gardens at a nearby greenhouse (Hoen's Garden Center = the greatest fairy garden selection ever!). Last minute, I switched things up. Or should I say, Alex switched things up...
I got a phone call that Alex was ready to pop the question!! And he wanted me to help out!! I was beyond excited.
Excited for our sweet friends. Excited for the idea of an adorable surprise. Excited to be a part of it!
So we hung up hundreds of string lights in a beautiful spot at Oak Openings. I convinced Kallie to stop there with me to take a quick family pic for friend before we headed to the garden center. While we “waited for my friend to arrive” we walked into the woods a little bit. It didn’t take long for Kallie to notice a guy standing in the woods with string lights hanging up around him, but I think it took her a little longer to realize who it actually was.
Her confusion as we got closer and Alex got down on one knee was adorable. After a little delay as the confusion wore off, she finally said yes.
They decided a wedding date exactly one year from their engagement, so we’re coming up on the big day in just a couple of months! It has been a year of watching these two grow in their own creative passions. Alex has been to Africa and back filming wildlife for Nat Geo Wild and creating more work for his project Running Wild Media while Kallie has been designing wedding save-the-dates, invites and more for her Pip & Cricket clients. Being the creatives that these two are, I know that this day is going to be exceptionally stylish and beautiful.
These two share my love for some good greenery and unique plants, so we made our way up to the Matthaei Botanical Gardens conservatory for their engagement session. It was absolutely beautiful and wild. Between the rich green foliage, the waterfall and the rays of sun shining through the mist, this place could do no wrong. Not to mention, Kallie & Alex are fun to be around, super adorable to photograph and they are even helpful in finding the most photographable details (ie. when the misters turned on as the sun was shining into the room creating a perfectly steamy, mystical moment).
Scroll down to see for yourself! And keep an eye out in October for the beauty that is sure to happen at their ceremony and reception in the beautiful Secor Ballroom downtown!
